Oil Tank Safety this Summer
Many of you will have received your last fill of oil for the Summer months, so there has never been a better time to check your oil tank to ensure it is in good condition and there are no leaks or damage.
Below is a little video we found from the Heating Oil Trade Associations OFTEC and FPS. Although this video is UK based the message and advice applies to here in Ireland too!
As we are drawing into the warmer months ( or so many of you would hope) there are a few domestic maintenance jobs you tend to look after, like painting the house, mowing the lawns etc. Checking your oil tank should also be added to the list of things to complete during these months.
The video below explains why it is important to check your oil tank regularly. Leaks from heating oil tanks are considered rare, however, it’s always best not to take a chance! A a leak can be costly not only for you but also for the environment. If you tank is 10 year old or more this is particularly important as with any domestic appliance, your tank will eventually wear out.
So how do I test my Oil Tank?
The best way to do this is to have your tank checked regularly by an OFTEC registered technician as part of your annual boiler service. You can find a registered technician by visiting the OFTEC Website.
Your technician will advise you should you have any problems and they will recommend any changes that you may need to make.
There are some checks you can do yourself and this video will go through these and explain some of the warning signs you should look out for!
