Lambe Oil, founded by the late PJ (Gussie) Lambe in 1971, has recently celebrated fifty years in business. Gussie, along with his wife Brigid, ran the company until Gussie passed away in 2002 at the age of sixty-nine. We are a female-led oil distributor. We are the longest-established authorised TOP-branded distributor in Ireland. It is also one of the largest leading oil distributors in the Midlands – supplying home heating oil, petrol, commercial and agricultural fuel six days a week to Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, and parts of Kildare.
Today, the proud Lambe Oil family tradition is carried on by Gussie and Brigid’s daughter, Managing Director Rita Lambe. The Oil business is mostly male-driven but this does not phase Rita Lambe in the slightest. Rita loves the challenges of day-to-day business and is comfortable breaking those glass ceilings while inspiring a new generation of female entrepreneurs in the industry. Rita of course was also inspired by her own mother and her great work ethic. Brigid is now in her ninetieth year, lives with Rita, and still enquires every evening about her day. She takes a keen interest in the business, regularly advising Rita on ‘what to do, and what not to do!’
Rita says that she has a simple policy for managing her business –
